Drag Night 2010

Track Side Updates

4:00 pm
There is a huge crowd on hand today for the 2nd annual VW Drag Night, and the biggest field we've seen so far in the ECPRA.  We have three teams from California, hoping to take the Pro Mod trophy out west with them, three teams from Texas, who would love to see the Pro Stock title go back to the lone star state, and a whole bunch of teams who want to keep both of those trophies right here on the East coast.

The drivers' meetings are now complete, and we are beginning to weigh the cars.  This is shaping up to be a really big event.  Connectivity at the track is not helping us with the track side updates, but we will do the best we can to keep you up to date as the action unfolds.

6:00 pm
The first round of Pro Stock and Pro Mod qualifying is now complete.  Warren Skaggs was the first out of the box, putting down an impressive run, proving the track was capable of hooking up despite the heat.  But then the track fought back sending Tay Woykowski, Alan Fore, and Damon Harmon back to the pits for repairs.  The Pro Mod class didn't see quite as many breakages, but the times were all over the board.  The crowd went wild when Kris Lauffer threw down a wheelie bar bending moon shot but the lack of friction on the front tires didn't help his time much.

Round two of qualifying is now on the books.  The temperature and humidity are starting to drop, and so are the times.  Warren Skaggs remains on top of Pro Stock after two passes while The Red Baron is defending his title as "World's Fastest Fokker" moving into first place in Pro Mod.  Complete details below.

Qualifying is now complete.  A little bit of down time as crews cleaned up the track, gave me some more time to run around and grab some more pictures.  Warren Skaggs was the first Pro Stock to come up afet the break and he appeared to have some trouble with his car at the line, but still managed to get the car down the track.  On the trailing end of the round was Team Fore who finally got their gremlins reined in and threw down an impressive 6.00 run.  I Pro Mod, the order remains unchanged, but The Red Baron cut a half second off his time and pending a backup pass, has just set a new record.  Right now we're waiting for the weather to improve before we can get started with eliminations.  We haven't seen any rain yet, but there is lightning in the area.

Lots of excitement in the first round of eliminations.  Alan Fore opted to save the car for more fun later while Eric Calabrese, Dale Adams, and Warren Skaggs all decided to go full tilt on their bye runs.  Gene Collier failed to make the call because of a fuel pump problem, and had to call it a night early.  Pro Mod newcomer Lee Street upset Brannon Young with a very nice run, and John Strnad beat out Jason Poynter in the battle of the Texas boys.  Roger Crawford's awesome House of Power machine took out Kris from VW Paradise, and Tay Woykowski kept the fastback nicely in the groove sending Brian Drew back to the trailer.

VW Drag Night 2010 is now on the books.  Alan Fore took the win over Warren Skaggs, but was not able to back up his earlier pass of 6.00 and secure the record.  Kris Lauffer came back and made another pass and backed up his run of 5.25, but it was just for fun and bragging rights between the two teams.  Eric Calabrese's run however officially backed up his earlier pass and secured the record for Pro Mod, beating Roger Crawford in the process.

Congratulations to Eric and his team for the new record and the win in Pro Mod, Alan and crew for the Pro Stock win, and both Skaggs and Crawford for their second place finishes.

A huge thanks to Scott Sain and crew for putting on an awesome show once again, and to all the teams who drove across the country to be here.  We are already looking forward to next year.
